These Bohrok are not like any other. The Bohrok-Kal are servants of Makuta, and each have a mind of their own. The Bohrok-Kal were commissioned by Makuta to steal the Nuva Symbols and drain each Toa's elemental powers and use them to free the Bohrok Queens and unleash the Bohrok Horde upon the island of Mata Nui.
When the Toa Nuva were first attacked by the Kal they tried to use their mask powers, but were overwhelmed when the Kal combined their powers of Electricity(Tahnok-Kal), Gravity(Nuhvok-Kal), Magnetism(Gahlok-Kal), Vacuum(Lehvak-Kal), Sonics(Kohrak-Kal), and Plasma(Pahrak-Kal).
The Toa Nuva tracked the Bohrok-Kal to the nest of the Bahrag (the Bohrok Queens), and arrived to see the Bohrok-Kal in the process of freeing the Queens. To stop this from happening Toa Tahu summoned the Great Mask of Time to slow the Kal enough for the Toa to attack and regain the Nuva Symbols. As he did this the Bohrok-Kals' Krana-Kal turned silver and a force field surrounded them that protected them from all harm. Gali Nuva told the other Toa to channel all of their power into the Nuva Symbols, and this excess of power destroyed the Bohrok-Kal.
